Our Thoughts – Beware of Adverse Weather Conditions
Given the rainy and windy weather the area is expecting over the next few days, we may see a spike in these types of accidents. In fact, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act requires drivers to exercise “extreme caution…when hazardous weather adversely affect[s] visibility or traction….Drivers are required to reduce speed under such conditions. If conditions become sufficiently dangerous, operations must immediately be discontinued until the vehicle can against be safely operated.”
It is no secret that adverse weather conditions affect a tractor trailer driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. Unfortunately, large corporations often put unrealistic expectations on drivers, forcing them to push the limits of safety in the interest of profits. This often results in crashes that can have catastrophic injuries to innocent motorists.
